River Valley season opener is tonight at 7pm at Midland High School. The Falcon's take on the Mid County Panthers from the Lincoln Trail Conference. We will honor the 2015 Falcon Seniors before kick off tonight.

HS VB Invitational starts Saturday!!! 

Midland welcomes in 7 other schools to join in the first ever Midland Volleyball Invitational. Other schools in the Invitational include Henry, Peoria, Peoria Christian, Brimfield, Ashton - Franklin Center, Delavan and Paw Paw. Games start at 8am at both the High School and Middle School. All updates will be posted on our Twitter feed @AthCusd7.

Chain Gang

Calling all former Falcon Football Players and Parents. We need your help! We are looking for three individuals who can run the chain gang this season. Midland Picks Up 2nd

Midland High School Golf Team picked up 2nd place in their own invitational on Monday at the Lacon Country Club. Prairie Central finished in 1st with a score of 332. Midland shot a 350 and Putnam County nabbed 3rd place with a score of 357. Midland placed 3 individuals inside the top 12. Tyler Miller finished in 5th place overall. Wyatt Colvin finished in 11th place and AJ Foster finished in 12th!

August 20

Golf kicked off their 2015 season with a triangular at Kewanee last night. Kewanee took 1st place with a score of 157, Midland finished 2nd with a score of 188 and Williamsfield in 3rd with a score of 197. Nolan Drake shot a 44 to lead Midland. The JV squad also finished in 2nd. Cole Mohr shot a 50 to lead the Timberwolves. The Timberwolves are at home tonight against Bureau Valley.

MS Softball fell to Germantown Hills last night. They return to action today at home against Brimfield at 4:15pm.

HS Golf is going on right now at the Lacon CC until 10am. 

HS VB will run two sessions today and tomorrow. The first session will start at 9am and end at 11am. The second session will start at noon and end at 2pm.

HS FB will start at 4pm and end at 7pm. 

VB Message

This is a message for all Midland Volleyball Players and Parents! Please read. 

MIDLAND VOLLEYBALL UPDATES 2015-2016

The following information is intended to help our season start smoothly and hopefully will answer some basic questions:

*All Players please have your physicals and sports athletic registration completed before the first practice….you will not be allowed to participate in any practice without the completion of these requested materials.  Please remember these items are good for one year only.

*First official day of practice will be Wednesday August 12th at the High School Gym.  Times are 9-11, then 1 hour break for lunch, then 12-2.  I would suggest bringing a sack lunch during the hour break.  We will do this same schedule the 13th. On the 14th practice will be from 3:30pm - 6:30pm, the 15th is Saturday and that will be decided after coach’s discuss the previous three days.

*Green and White night scrimmage will be Friday August 21st (I think ?).  The Freshman/Sophomores will start their scrimmage at 6pm. Varsity will follow.

*Practices this year will be everyday through the week except Saturday and Sunday.  We do not intend on practicing on Saturdays, but we reserve the right to have them if we see that it is necessary.

DURING A REGULAR SCHOOL WEEK AFTER THE HEAT SCHEDULE IS DONE PRACTICE TIMES WILL BE AS FOLLOWS:

*The Freshman/Sophomores will practice from 3:30-5:30 and are responsible for setting up both courts (the Varsity will take down both courts). There may be a Freshman or Sophomore who is asked to stay and practice with the Varsity until they are finished.  

*Varsity will practice from 4:00-6:30.

*All setters will run drills and technique work from 3:15-4:00 and will not set up or take down nets.

*Once we see how long the heat schedule will run we will adjust times accordingly.  The time frame will be the same.  Practice will begin when school is out and we may have to alter it if the gym gets too hot.

*We will not have a specific team shoe, players are encouraged to pick a brand of shoe and knee pads they like.  I prefer black for both of these items but it is not mandatory.  Also players should have their own black spandex, I prefer Mizuno  or Nike but it is not mandatory.  

*There will also be a Midland Volleyball T-shirt, Sweatshirt, and Sweatpants that the seniors are designing.  This is something I always let the senior’s design and is not mandatory for players to buy everything.  It would be nice if all players could at least buy the t-shirt so we can wear them to games.  Parents, friends, and family members may buy any of these items if they so desire at the time of the order.  

*We are pleased to welcome Junior Varsity Volleyball Coach Leah Ramseyer.

*We are also glad to welcome back Dylan Herridge again as a student helper.

Hopefully this will help with the upcoming season.  I am looking forward to having another great season working with our Midland student athletes.

REMINDER

Remember if you are planning on participating in HS Athletics you will need to complete the online registration and turn in an updated physical to the office before practice! Any athlete without one of those items or both, will be pulled from the practice fields. No exceptions!

Registration

Tomorrow the High School Media Center will be open from 5pm - 7pm for any parents and their student athletes to come in and complete the online registration. Remember, no athlete will be allowed to participate without completing registration.

Concussion Awareness

As the parent of an athlete you join a long list of concerned citizens about concussions. Recently, the media has given extensive air time to talking about concussions, symptoms and long term affects. I came across a video recently that discusses concussions. I urge all parents and athletes to take 10 minutes of your day to view the video. The more you know, the smarter we can be about keeping our athletes safe.
